Rwanda won this competition without losing any single match during the competition. This victory realised the dream of all Rwandan sitting volleyball players of representing Rwanda in the Paralympic Games.
Among them there is Dominique BIZIMANA, team player and the President of NPC Rwanda since 2003. He participated in Paralympic Games of Athens and Beijing as President of NPC Rwanda, but he was not satisfied! So, he introduced a programme called “Rwanda, Towards London 2012″ that would send a team to participate in the next Paralympics.
Dominique BIZIMANA, awarded ‘Most Allround Player’ of the competition
receiving a Gold Ball from Denis Le Breuilly, WOVD Sports Director
The journey to London started with qualification to USA
Sitting Volleyball World Championship in Oklahoma.
Today, Rwanda is the
first African country in Sub-Saharan zone to represent a sitting volleyball team
in Paralympics. It is also the second team in Africa to qualify for London 2012
Rwandan athletes will join the training camp in St Bury
Edmunds two weeks before Olympic and Paralympic Games.
So far, Rwanda has
already qualified Muvunyi Hermas Cliff in Athletics (400m&800m T46) and now
a 12 member team in Sitting Volleyball.
We are pursuing other qualifications in Powerlifting and Athletics.
