RWANDA: PRESS RELEASE ADDRESSED TO MEMBERS OF FDU-INKINGI
From Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza for President, Mittwoch, 27. April 2011 um 19:28
Kigali, April 26, 2011
PRESS RELEASE ADDRESSED TO MEMBERS OF FDU-INKINGI
On April 20, 2011in Kigali , two former local cadres of FDU-INKINGI in Kigali City , were arrested and detained by the Rwandan security services. We’re in no way linked to the motives that led to their arrest and detention. Since February
2011, they have unleashed a smear propaganda to discredit known existing party structures. No difference with any other individual opposed to our struggle for freedom and democracy.
We believe that the distraction over their incarceration is not good for the many challenges we face as a party, given that some wicked dissidents, are using this incident for cheap politics to fuel divisions. We take this opportunity to inform our members in Rwandaor still in exile of the following:
1. The remand in custody of Norbert Manirafasha and Anastase Hagabimana has nothing to do with FDU-INKINGI activities in Rwanda and no relation to any member of the Interim Executive Committee. It may be a fake issue aimed at misleading the public in order to tarnish the party’s good image or to level some fresh police-induced false confessions against the party Chairperson, Ms. Victoire INGABIRE already in maximum prison.
2. The only issues they have with the party leadership in Rwanda are related to indiscipline, impersonification, fraudulous use of party logo and letterheads and spreading fabricated alarming rumors. The Interim Executive Committee has many times formally condemned those practices. On 11 March 2011, during a prison visit to the party’s
Chairperson, Ms. Victoire INGABIRE UMUHOZA, she told one of them in public: “what you’ve done is similar to stabbing my back with a sword”. Lately, she instructed her lawyer to serve them bailiff letters in this respect.
3. They were used in acts aimed at dismantling FDU-INKINGI in Rwanda , betraying Ms. Victoire INGABIRE, the party Chairperson who is currently languishing in prison, and harassing the Interim Executive Committee, with the help from some RPF members and some party dissidents currently living abroad. All of them have been doing everything they can to bring back the party in exile and tarnish the reputation of the party leadership and distinguished party members.
We call upon our party members and the Rwandan people to contempt such smear propaganda aimed at defaming the party Chairperson Ms. Victoire INGABIRE, her lawyer, the members of the Interim Executive Committee based here in Kigali or members of the Coordinating Committee of FDU-INKINGI still in exile. Those who try to dismantle the party are in the pay of the dictatorship, they will face appropriate disciplinary measures.
4. We would like to inform the media and the public that the Interim Executive Committee based in Kigali and chaired by Ms. Victoire INGABIRE UMUHOZA is the sole organ authorized to sign written documents on behalf of the party FDU-INKINGI. Those who maliciously and pompously continue to pose as Executive leaders and fake the party logo, letterheads or email addresses or continue to spread hate ordefamatory propaganda will be taken to courts.
